Rockford favorite Jim Gill to perform concerts

ROCKFORD, IL – Get ready to sing, clap, dance and spin along during two concerts by award-winning musician and author Jim Gill on Friday, July 28 at Discovery Center Museum.

Rockford native Jim Gill is known for celebrating active play. In concert, Jim strums energizing rhythms on his banjo while everyone sings, claps, and dances to his silly and inspiring musical games.  Each concert is more than a show to watch – it is an opportunity for family play!

The concerts are based on Gill’s newest collection of recordings.  The three CDs are called Jim Gill’s Most Celebrated Songs and are filled with his best and most active music play.  Jim promises, in concert, to share a non-stop selection of sing-alongs, dance-alongs, finger plays and tongue twisters. The concerts will feature Jim’s ‘Silly Dance Contest,” his jazzy “One From the Left” finger play and many more opportunities for children, parents and grandparents to sing and play together!

Jim Gill will give two live performances, at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Cost is included with museum admission – Public: $10/person; children age 1 and younger and members are FREE. Tickets are available the day of the event and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Jim Gill has released ten award-winning CDs of music play for young children that are favorites in family rooms, classrooms and playrooms.  Jim is also the author of two children’s books.  His most popular, A Soup Opera, is a sing-along opera inspired by concerts that Jim performs with symphony orchestras.

The Jim Gill concerts are made possible thanks to Constellation Energy and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

About Jim Gill

Jim Gill is a musician and author with unique credentials among children’s artists.  Jim is a child development specialist, completing his graduate studies in child development at the Erikson Institute of Chicago with a special emphasis on the study of play.  For this reason, each of Jim’s recordings and books is created as an opportunity for playful interactions between a child and a caring adult.  Anyone who has experienced one of Jim’s family concerts knows that rather than performing for the children and parents, Jim leads them to sing and play together.
